RESIDENT OF TATARSTAN SENTENCED TO 9 YEARS FOR FINANCING MILITANTS IN SYRIA

A resident of Tatarstan will spend 9 years in prison for financing militants in Syria. The verdict was issued by the Central District Military Court of Samara.

A 26-year-old man, following the instructions of members of the foreign terrorist organization Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad (banned in the Russian Federation), transferred money to militants based in the territory that they control in the Syrian Republic, press service of the regional FSB department told RG.

The attacker was detained as a result of operational and searching activities. He possessed means of communication and devices for making electronic payments. Subsequently, he was charged under the article “Assistance to Terrorist Activities.”
