Modi says situation in Afghanistan impacts security of the SCO countries

The situation in Afghanistan affects security of the SCO countries. This is what Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi stated when speaking at the opening of the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held online under the chairmanship of India.

“We should not allow using Afghan territory to destabilize its neighbors,” Prime Minister Modi said.

“Together, we must fight terrorism which can take any form and any manifestation,” the head of the Indian government added.

He called on the SCO countries to make joint efforts for the benefit of the people of Afghanistan. “Humanitarian assistance to the Afghan civilian population, establishment of an inclusive government, countering terrorism and drug trafficking, ensuring the rights of women, children and minorities are our common priority,” he said, reminding the audience that the peoples of India and Afghanistan are connected by “century-old friendly relations.”
