Talks on Syria to be held in Astana

Another round of talks on Syria in the “Astana format” will begin on Tuesday in the capital of Kazakhstan. The previous round of talks took place in Astana in November 2022.

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, delegations of the guarantor countries namely Russia, Turkey and Iran, as well as representatives of the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition will take part in the negotiations. Representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq are expected to arrive as observers.

The agenda includes issues related to changing the regional situation around Syria, the situation on the ground, efforts for a comprehensive settlement in the Syria, countering terrorism, implementing confidence-building measures, including the release of hostages and the search for missing persons, the humanitarian situation in Syria, mobilization of the efforts of the international communities in order to promote the post-conflict reconstruction of Syria and creation of preconditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their motherland.
